Sun Fire V880

Sun Fire V880 Overview

Sun Fire V880 UltraSPARC III server introduced in October 2001 as an entry-level high-performance server has become one of the fastest selling systems in the market. The impact ofthe Sun Fire V880 has turned the midrange Unix marketplace upside down. The Sun Fire V880 is a huge price/performance leader over its competition and fulfills the IT manager.s dream of high performance at a very low cost of ownership. The Sun Fire V880 offers enterprise-class reliability, availability, and scalability (RAS) features, including redundant hotswap (N+1) power supplies, hot-plug disks, Automatic System Recovery (ASR), field replaceable components, and Remote System Control (RSC) management tools. Furthermore, many of the features of the enterprise line, like the Sun Fire FirePlane interconnect, and unmatched linear scalability, have been leveraged in the Sun Fire V880. User acceptance of the Sun Fire V880, demonstrated by its leading market share among all eight-way servers worldwide in the few months following its introduction speaks volumes for itself.
